Welcome to Thula Learn

In a time of drastic change it is the learners who will inherit the future. The learned usually find themselves equipped to live in a world that no longer exists,            (Hoffer, E. 1902-1983).
This is a problem-oriented portfolio that focuses on improving my Instructional Design (ID) practice at the Institute of Distance Education, in the University of Eswatini. As part of the portfolio, a number of challenges that I face will be outlined, alongside the strategies I have been learning on how to tackle such challenges while studying towards the MIDT.

To structure my portfolio, I will present the artifacts for the following related courses as separate links:
1. Designing of web-supported learning informed by relevant learning theories, ID models and current trends in the area of designing for learning with technology (see Artifacts 1, 2, 3 & 4)
2. Participatory learning culture and application through Group Projects (see Artifacts 5, 6 & 7)
3. Team building from designing for web-supported learning phase through professional development to enhance professional performance (see Artifacts 8, 9 & 10)
4. Research related to web-supported learning and final consolidation of learning processes, (see Artifacts 11, 12, 13 & 14).

Thereafter, learning pathways will be indicated as iterative loops that integrate the various levels and components of my practice through each artifact as follows:
-the contribution of each artifact in improving my practice
-new tools and techniques learned
-relevant conceptual and theoretical models
-new lessons or awareness gained through feedback and reflections
-then my empowerment through a dedicated Reflection link which synthesises lessons learned from all MIDT courses.

  2. Hello Thula

I could remember the assignment well and I could not find mine to include in my eportfolio and had to email Colin who sent it to me.

This form of presentation and possible assessment tool is great. What I cannot forget was the time it took to compose and create. Thus when giving assignments and knowing honestly how difficult it can be it pays to understand the difficulty factor. I can see how it has shown your growth and for the first time I heard your voice. Interesting. I enjoyed your Jing presentation and did see how it can be used to structure your progression towards being a better professional.

  3. Thanks Steve for following this blog and for reminder about the mounting stress levels while we were working on the screencast. As you rightly point out even though it is a challenge to design and develop multimedia learning assets like this one, it is necessary for us to do so to suit the diverse learning styles of most of our students.

  8. I just tried to read your assignment on teamwork but I was unable too. Could you please check it out and see if it is there.

From what you have written though on teamwork we know that it is a very important skill that we all need to have in the 21st century. We have also to find ways and means of getting this across in the classroom by teachers/facilitators.

I await to read and then make further comments on your position paper for this artifact on teamwork.

  9. Dear Thula

This is my review and critique on your artifact on Designing e-learning.

Your pre-reflection will give a clear idea to your audience as to what the artifact was about and what you have learnt from it and also how you have applied it in a learning setting. You may want to give a link to the work (related to IDE) that you have mentioned in the lessons learned section. The audience might be interested to see the details of your application.

    Regards
    Sarah

  10. Dear Thula

The following is my reflection and critique on your artifact on participatory learning culture.

Your work is both clear and organized. Your audience will be able to understand what you were expected to do and also the purpose of the task However, you may want to shed some more light on the situation/context in which the artifact was given and what were its learning objectives. Your audience will be glad to see how you have integrated even the actual artifact with your work – as you probably presented this presentation to your IDE colleagues. Your lessons section also relates well what you have learnt and its relation with your work/context. You may want to share if you have or are planning to use any technology or tools for teamwork in your teaching/learning or workplace.

    Regards
    Sarah
